Another Murky Sun

30 December 2012 JPEG30 December 2012 Annotated JPEG30 December 2012 Long & Lat

All a bit mucky really - the Sun was really low 12° above the horizon - although the sky was clear the image was boiling all over the place!!  42/120 frames, 24 flats. Evostar 120 Achromat.  Canon 1100D, 1/1000 sec, ISO 100, Baader film.

Beautiful clear blue skies!

A beautiful clear blue sky all day today - so time to take a few Sun pictures:  Main image is a stack of 79/100 using the Canon 1100D and the AR close ups are with a 2.5x Powermate and QHY IMG132E at around 45 fps - all done through my 120mm Evostar achromat on a motorised EQ5.  Processing in Reg5 and Autostakkert2 for the AR's.  Colour and tweaking in PS CS5.

Jupiter from last night, Bizibilder is still experimenting with the set-up of his new camera but things seem to be getting sorted slowly.  Two sets of images below using slightly different exposure times.  The Moon of Jupiter that you can see is Io.

5 November–Jupiter

5 November 2012 Jupiter

Jupiter-Animation

Last nights efforts were to try and get used to my QHY IMG132E camera when imaging Jupiter.  For once the seeing was quite good and, after a few tries, I managed to get this sequence.  Initially I had had trouble with over-exposure but I think I now have that under control.  One advantage of the shorter exposures is that it allows the camera to operate at slightly higher frame rates.  The short “movie” is made from the four frames above and shows just how far Jupiter rotates in around 20 minutes!! – One full revolution in around 10 hours.
