A tidied up Jupiter from 17th Jan

17 January 2014 Jupiter single

Best of the bunch – Bizibilder is sure you can see some of the vortex detail within the Great Red Spot.

Spring has sprung early this year!

Bizibilder took these in his garden today – The blue flowers (bottom picture) have been in flower all winter and show no sign of stopping!

Last night’s Moon

11 January 2014 The Moon

I’ve marked the Mare Humboltarium – it can only be seen from Earth when the moon’s orbital oscillations (officially called libration) allows us to see it. We can see around 59% of the Moons total surface from Earth (but only 50% at any one time!!).  This little animation shows what is going on:

Jupiter on 9 January 2014

This is the first light for my new set up of the C11 (11” diameter telescope) and 2x Barlow to try and get some decent images of the planets.  Jupiter was first up and I'm quite pleased with this result as the seeing was better than it has been for a while allowing for a reasonable image.  Now all I need is a lot of practice!!

The Sun just before yet more rain!

Todays Sun - 54/130 frames and a close-up that was frame restricted by the clouds rolling in!! I only just packed away before it poured down again!
