An idea of size


Just to give some idea of apparent size the above two images are of the Rosette and the Moon taken with the same optical set-up.  The Rosette is, of course, quite a bit further away than the Moon – about 5000 light years away! and is roughly 130 light years in diameter (it takes light, travelling at 186000 miles per second, 130 years to get from one side of the nebula to the other – so it’s quit a biggie!!)
